Count pounds and pence in seconds
This free cash counter is made for money in the United Kingdom. Tell it how many of each note and coin you have, and it works out the total in pounds and pence. Shop staff use a cash calculator like this for cashing up the till, and it also suits pub tips, charity collections and a tin of loose change.
Cashing up a till
Count the whole till and take away the float. If the till holds £174.46 and the float was £100, your cash takings should be £74.46.
UK coin bag values
Banks take coins in bags of a set value. Check with your bank before paying in, as limits vary.
| Coin | Coins in a bag | Bag value |
|---|---|---|
| 1p | 100 | £1 |
| 2p | 50 | £1 |
| 5p | 100 | £5 |
| 10p | 50 | £5 |
| 20p | 50 | £10 |
| 50p | 20 | £10 |
| £1 | 20 | £20 |
| £2 | 10 | £20 |
To use this page as a coin counter for full bags, multiply first. Three bags of 20p are 150 coins, so enter 150 in the 20p row.
Which UK notes and coins you can enter
The calculator covers £5, £10, £20 and £50 notes, plus 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p, 20p, 50p, £1 and £2 coins. Notes with the King or the late Queen count the same. Scottish and Northern Irish notes go in the row for the same value.
Using the calculator
Group your money by note and coin, then enter each quantity or use + and −. Holding a button changes it faster, and your total appears at the top, to the penny.
It is free, needs no sign-up and works on a phone or computer. What you enter stays on your device. Full view lets you tap a picture as you count, Hide empty shows only the values you have used, and the speaker button switches tap sounds off. It totals money you have already counted, so it cannot read notes or spot forgeries, and it clears when the page reloads.
