Count bills, loonies and toonies fast
This free money counter is set up for Canadian cash. Enter how many of each bill and coin you have, and it adds up your total in Canadian dollars as you type. It works as a cash calculator for a store register, a tip jar, a school fundraiser or a jar of change.
Canadian coin rolls
Rolled coins are quick to add once you know what each roll holds.
| Coin | Coins in a roll | Roll value |
|---|---|---|
| Nickel (5ยข) | 40 | $2 |
| Dime (10ยข) | 50 | $5 |
| Quarter (25ยข) | 40 | $10 |
| Loonie ($1) | 25 | $25 |
| Toonie ($2) | 25 | $50 |
Enter coins, not rolls. Three rolls of toonies are 75 coins, so type 75 in the $2 row to see $150.
Why cash totals end in 0 or 5
Canada stopped distributing the penny in 2013, so a cash total is rounded to the nearest 5 cents after tax. Totals ending in 1, 2, 6 or 7 cents round down, and those ending in 3, 4, 8 or 9 round up. Debit, credit and cheque payments are still charged to the exact cent.
Closing out a cash register
Count the drawer, then subtract the float you started with. A drawer with $430 in bills and $35.75 in coins holds $465.75. If the float was $250, cash sales should be $215.75.
